When most people think of making their own compost at home, they likely cringe especially if worms are involved. I know that I did. Luckily, I overcame that fear and am now able to generate my own fresh organic compost in the kitchen. I was able to do it in my small NYC apartment, so I don’t want to hear space as an excuse.

According to the NYC Compost Project, “The average New York City household discards two pounds of organic waste each day—adding up to more than one million tons of organic material a year.”

Those are materials that can be used to help not only grow and feed your garden, they will cut into your costs since you already have them. It will also save all of that waste from going to the landfill. Making compost at home is a great first step to starting your own home vegetable garden.
